I am not especially gifted at cooking. I rarely have the time and, when I finally commit to a meal, it’s usually one of 12 I have in perpetual rotation. Same dinner, different day…we typically do takeout or frozen dinners on the weekdays and I make “big” family meals on the weekend and that’s worked fine for a while now. But striving for variety and healthier options, I met up with 12 girlfriends last night at SupperThyme here in Columbia.
If you’re a regular Buzz reader, you may remember my enthusiasm about this concept, but last night was my first hands-on experience…and I loved it! Here’s the gig: book a party, invite a dozen friends, and the store gives you a dozen possible meals. Pick your favorite and make either 6 or 12, double up on your favorites and skip the menus that don’t appeal to you. The recipes and ingredients are all prepped for you, so you walk in, pop open a bottle of wine and start cooking! An hour or two later, you walk out with up to a dozen delicious meals that you can stow in the freezer and eat as you like.
The results? My family will be feasting on Balsamic Beef Kabobs, Stuffed Manicotti, Lemon & Cracked Black Pepper Chicken, Dijon Molasses Pork Tenderloin, Ham & Cheese Potato Casserole and Penne Pasta with Creamy Chipotle Sauce. Yummy, no? We had a ball as we cooked, chatting up a storm and feasting on Jambalaya and Gooey Chocolate Cake that SupperThyme had waiting for us. And I didn’t have to make a shopping list or wash a single dish. Now that’s what I call dinner.
It’s an awesome concept and makes for a great evening out with the girls. Even better- I’ll be traveling quite a bit in the coming month and I don’t have to burden my husband with what to prepare for dinner; he was all too happy to watch the kids for an evening in exchange for hot, fresh meals with the click of an oven thermostat.
