Today is World AIDS Day
December 1, 2009
The World AIDS Campaign is a global coalition of national, regional and international civil society groups united by the call for governments to honour their AIDS commitments under the slogan “Stop AIDS. Keep the Promise.” The campaign is governed by a steering committee of global constituency-based networks and supported by a team of support staff based primarily in Cape Town, South Africa and partially in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
More than two million AIDS related deaths reported globally in 2008 - two million children under the age of 15 now live with HIV. New figures released by the World Health Organization and UNAIDS estimate the number of new HIV infections have declined each year by about 17% from 2001 to 2008, but for every five people infected, only two start treatment.
Today- of all days- I encourage you to find an event near you or discover another way to get involved. May we all be safe and healthy in 2010!

Thank you for the awareness of World AIDS Day. A young friend of mine, Dana, died 2 years ago from AIDS. I saw the struggles she endured with the disease. I think of her often, the short life she lived and her vibrant and fearless spirit.
