Inspirational Jewlery from LuluBug

My teenage daughter recently left for a summer service trip to Thailand. I was scouring Etsy for a piece of inspirational jewelry to give her when I stumbled upon LuluBug. I’m smitten with her whimsical, original designs in sterling silver. My Chloe scored a locket that said “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams…” but I’ve got my eye on several other pieces as well. Who could resist the “You are my sunshine” necklace?

Ingredient of the Month
Crushed Freshwater Pearls

Crushed Freshwater Pearls: Celebrated by Asian women and ancient Chinese pharmacopoeia for more than 3,000 years, pearl powder has a rich history and a myriad of legendary tales about its use at the Imperial Palace. Created by pulverizing real freshwater pearls, it is reputed to boost skins brightness and is rich in both amino acids and trace minerals.

Food For Thought

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma- which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”

Home Spa Rituals
Lavender- Honey Milk Bath

3 tbsp. Dried Lavender Flowers*
1 1/2 cups Whole Milk or Buttermilk
1/3 cup Honey

Process lavender flowers in a blender until they become a powder, turning off the blender and scraping down the sides as necessary. Whisk together lavender powder, milk, and honey in a glass bowl, then pour into a jar. Before each use, shake the jar and pour half of the mixture into the bath. Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Makes enough for 2 baths.

*Dried lavender flowers can be found in the spice section of gourmet and specialty stores. (Recipe courtesy of the National Honey Board)

I’m not dead….

October 17, 2008

…I’m just REALLLLY busy in Boston. My apologies for my blog absence, but hot on the tails of Orlando, I flew into Boston to attend the Natural Expo East here in town. I walked the show floor for 5.5 hours yesterday and didn’t see the half of it, so I am back at it again today. Bella Luccè’s Arabian distributor keeps an apartment here in Boston, so she’s in from Kuwait and we’ve been busy chatting about new Middle Eastern opportunities, the hotel resort development deal we’ve been diligently working on for the past year (I *promise* to make a formal announcement by year’s end), and I’m helping her scour the market for a new organic mass market brand to bring to her region. Exciting stuff. Additionally, I attended a day-long meeting with the Campaign For Safe Cosmetics, of which Bella Luccè is a signatory. This is an especially critical time for the natural/organic market and beauty companies in particular and it was great to brainstorm together about effective ways to promote safe personal care products and how to help craft federal legislation to ensure those goals for everyone.

When not busy with that full plate, I was lucky enough to attend a celebratory party for Dr. Bronner’s Magical Soap, who has historically lead the march to define and protect organic standards and won another preliminary victory this week with their lawsuit against regulatory bodies they feel are diluting the organic vision. Here I am with the nfamous David Bronner enjoying a glass of the grape in celebration:

So it’s back to the show floor for me today, then out to a nice dinner with a few fellow beauty entrepreneurs I am excited to meet. Will wrote more from Columbia on Monday. Speaking of next week, I was invited to host a Small Business Seminar via Bank of America. That’s slated for Wednesday, October 22nd from 2-3pm EST. You can drop by right now and leave a question for me and I’ll answer it live on Wednesday. Should be a good conversation…hope you’ll join in!
