Bacchus Body Oil

The weather is finally cooling, which means that our Tuscan Wine Therapy Collection is in high production in the Bella Luccè kitchens. I am often greeted by the alluring aroma of crisp red wine as I open the door to my office (thanks to the products, not because the staff is hitting the bottle while I am away), and- let me tell you- that aroma is pleasantly addictive. Exhibit A: our Bacchus Body Oil. Cleverly disguised in miniature wine bottle, the emerald glass holds a luscious body oil that harnesses the power and aroma of burgundy grapes. Slather it on daily after showering to lock in moisture or try it as a silky massage oil for those nights by the roaring fires. Even Bacchus (the Roman god of wine and intoxication) would be proud.

Latest Obsession
Leg Shine by Michael Kors

Confession: This isn’t so much a “latest” obsession, but an ongoing obsession that I was startled to realize I have not yet shared with my gentle readers. Introducing Leg Shine by Michael Kors, or- as my husband calls it- “Lela’s Leg Deodorant.” All kidding aside, this silky stick glides on effortlessly- try it on legs, arms and dècolletage. In its wake you’ll find a divine aroma, a thin veil of moisture and a subtle, sexy shimmer. Not exactly the “I just rolled myself in glitter” effect….let’s let the teenagers of America reclaim that look. This is subtle, yet sumptuous. Loves it.

Monthly Poll

Just for fun & completely anonymous, who are Bella Lucce clients voting for in November?

  • McCain/Palin
  • Obama/Biden
  • Third Party
  • I don't plan to vote at all.

Ingredient of the Month
Pomegranate Seed Oil

Brimming with potent antioxidants that wage war on the free radicals responsible for aging, pomegranate seed oil is also rich in ellagic and punicic acids, which are reknowned for their ability to increase skin elasticity as they moisturize and protect dry skin. It takes 200+ pounds of fresh pomegranates to yield one pound of costly pomegranate seed oil.

Home Spa Ritual
5 Penny Lip Scrub

Dry, chapped lips are an unfortunate reality of winter. Thankfully, outrageously priced lip scrubs don’t have to be. You can recreate a simple version of those department store concoctions at home- for a fraction of the price. For less than a nickel per application, you can use this handy little tip to help loosen and gently remove dead skin for a Pitt-worthy pucker.

Take a pinch of brown sugar and gently rub onto moistened lips (don’t attempt this dry or you’ll risk raw, overly exfoliated lips). Rinse with warm water and immediately apply chapstick. I do this routine several times per week throughout autumn and winter and it yields beautiful results in seconds!

Drumroll, please...

Bella Lucce - carbon balanced with TerraPass

I am thrilled to announce that Bella Luccè has just been certified as “Carbon Balanced” by TerraPass. We’ve purchased 79 tons of carbon offset credits to neutralize the full extent of our in on-site power consumption, corporate travel, computer server use and employee daily commutes. Sounds lovely, no? But what exactly does it mean…I’ll let TerraPass explain:

A carbon offset is a certificate representing the reduction of one metric ton (2,205 lbs) of carbon dioxide emissions, the principal cause of global warming. Although complex in practice, carbon offsets are fairly simple in theory. If you develop a project that reduces carbon dioxide emissions, every ton of emissions reduced results in the creation of one carbon offset. Project developers can then sell these offsets to finance their projects. There are hundreds of different types of carbon reduction projects. For example, a wind farm generates clean energy, which reduces carbon emissions from coal-burning power plants. In order to finance its operations, a wind farm can sell these reductions in the form of carbon offsets.

This is just the latest step in Bella Luccè’s ongoing quest to be a leader in eco-friendly practices. Our efforts include:

● Bella Luccè uses only recyclable plastic in our product packaging and we encourage clients to take advantage of recycling facilities in their area.

● Product labels are printed on a revolutionary new material made entirely from corn, a renewable resource that decomposes in less than a year.

● We actively source organic and fair trade ingredients whenever possible. When working with particularly vulnerable regions, we mandate Eco-Cert participation and/or FSC approval in order to protect and promote responsible harvesting and processing methods.

● In an effort to reduce the amount of waste generated, we recycle clean shipping boxes and packaging peanuts. All retail shipments are nestled in Geami paper, a 100% biodegradable, unbleached paper substrate.

● Product catalogues are printed on FSC-certified paper stock and recycled paper is used for all inter-office printing.

● Bella Luccè is a proud member of the Organic Trade Association, Co-op America and the Green Products Alliance.

Ready for the next step? Pay it forward and teach your children to walk softly on the earth. One of my children’s favorite websites is the Environmental Kids Club, where kids can play games, download activity books and color pictures as they learn about the delicate world around them. Really ready to get serious? Consider going meat-free a few days per week or abandoning meat consumption all together. A recent UN report found that raising livestock contributes more towards global warming than all the cars in the world combined. Scary, but true. Learn more here.
