The beach does a body good
April 23, 2008
So my dear husband scooped me up and shipped me off to the beach to get some sanity-saving downtime…God love him. He planned the entire trip and kept me in the dark until the very last minute. On Friday morning, we packed up and shipped out to Myrtle Beach, SC and checked into the brand new Anderson Ocean Club. Myrtle Beach can be incredibly touristy and some of the properties are pretty antiquated, but Oceana Resorts just opened this new resort and it is absolutely lovely. Gorgeous, beach-front condos with a surprising number of indoor and outdoor pools, hot tubs, beautiful finishes and spacious kitchens. Good times.
So we stole away for quite a while- sunning ourselves, sleeping in, spa-ing (the Moroccan-inspired Awakening Spa at the resort is drop-dead gorgeous and uber-professional), gorging ourselves on fantastic food and shopping ourselves into oblivion. Which is just what I needed. We had planned to parasail, but Christopher was so consumed by a nasty sunburn that he shuddered at very thought of the word “harness”- so no parasailing this time around. But the weather was fantastically cooperative- blue skies, moderate temps, gentle breezes and a warm, radiant sun. I could not have asked for more.
In lieu of parasailing, we trekked out to Hard Rock Park, a newly-opened theme park here in Myrtle Beach. The grand opening isn’t for another few weeks, which meant we got in on the cheap and never had to wait in line as they’re in the middle of a test-run of sorts. No lines made it all the better. Unfortunately for me, my Blackberry was stolen the night before. Unfortunately for Christopher, the sheer force of Led Zepplin: The Ride cracked his cell phone, which was nestled in his pocket. We are not the luckiest of souls. But we had a fabulous time (see below and note the presence in the shot of the ever elusive Mr. Barker):

The trip did wonders for my spirit. The condo had a Murphy bed in the living room. Our first night, we slept in the bedroom, but we had popped out the Murphy by the second night, sleeping next to the open balcony and waking each morning to warm sunlight and the sound of waves crashing on the beach. Please God, just let me be rich enough one day to afford a
teeny-tiny beachfront home. I am convinced that there is no better night’s sleep.
And, thanks to the good folks at AT&T, I had a new Blackberry in my hands in just over 24 hours and I never even had to step foot in a Cingular store. Crisis averted!
