Dry, chapped lips are an unfortunate reality of winter. Thankfully, outrageously priced lip scrubs don’t have to be. You can recreate a simple version of those department store concoctions at home- for a fraction of the price. For less than a nickel per application, you can use this handy little tip to help loosen and gently remove dead skin for a Pitt-worthy pucker. Take a pinch of brown sugar and gently rub onto moistened lips (don’t attempt this dry or you’ll risk raw, overly exfoliated lips). Rinse with warm water and immediately apply chapstick. I do this routine several times per week throughout autumn and winter and it yields beautiful results in seconds!

In honor of International Women’s DayMarch 10, 2008I’ve known about Women for Women for quite some time now, but I am continually touched and amazed by their mission: to help women in war-torn regions rebuild their lives. Sponsors “adopt” a specific woman for just $27 per month (which includes funding for direct aid, rights education, job skills training and small business development) so that the beneficiaries can move toward self-sufficiency. American and European women are so blessed to have the basic rights that we do and it breaks my heart that there are women on this planet who labor daily under oppressive, poverty-stricken regimes without the promise that I enjoyed as a birthright. Zainab Salbi, the founder of Women For Women, helped an astounding 30,000 women in 2005 in Afghanistan, Congo, Rwanda and Sudan. Now she’ll be helping eight more… One of my “missions” with Bella Luccè is to help empower women worldwide and to encourage both corporate and personal philanthropy. With that in mind, Bella Luccè has recently adopted eight ladies through Women For Women- that’s one for each full-time staff member at this company. It’s our hope that the women will benefit immediately through our funding, and that my company can help foster relationships between Bella Luccè staff and the individual beneficiaries in a way that impacts both women and encourages our staff to perpetuate the philanthropy on a personal level.
